John Singleton Mosby Papers [manuscript], 1803-1924.

The collection contains correspondence among family members, accounts and some miscellaneous legal documents. There are several diaries and daybooks of correspondence and clippings concerning Mosby's Civil War and subsequent diplomatic career. Correspondents include Edwin Anderson Alderman, Jubal Anderson Early, Winfield Scott Hancock, A.D. Mosby, Florence F. Mosby, Pauline Clarke Mosby, Virginia J. Mosby, Wilson Cary Nicholas, James Ewell Brown Stuart, George Clement Perkins, and Stephen Mallory White. Diary entry on March 11, 1865 refutes the Lynchburg paper account that the Federal troops killed 300 local horses in Scottsville. They killed their own broken-down animals.
